Blood Donation in Cambodia

Every month the blood bank needs 2000 units of blood to help those in desperate need ... to save lives - but they only receive donations of 1000 units of blood.

At the moment the only way they have enough blood for all those people that need life saving blood donations,  is to ask all those that need blood to match blood needed 50%:50% with their central blood bank at Ang Doung Hospital. This means if you need 6 units, then if you get friends/family to donate 3 units then blood bank will give you 3 more units. This helps avoid corruption, where rich people buy all the units of blood. The blood bank stores all the blood donated so will only share when family or friends of those needing blood donate 50%.

There are so many Cambodians with blood conditions such as thalassemia, that many need regular blood transfusions, especially children.

It costs us nothing to donate our blood ... just 30 - 45 minutes of our time, and within a few hours our body has regenerated all our blood again.

We all have to do our part ... the next person that needs blood could be our brother, sister, father, mother, niece, nephew, son, daughter, friend ...

Your blood donation is very important, each donation saves lives!
